To make the room a focal point (and to make it feel detached from the house), Golden adds specific accessories:

    • A table and chairs

    • Baskets and pottery (figure A)

    • Paintings (figure B)

    • A gated doorway.

She also suggests fashioning wine labels out of gift tags and raffia (figure C) to add more character to the room.

Wine expert Russ Wright offers a couple of tips for wine enjoyment:

    • Make sure your wine can be stored at room temperature.

    • Tilt the bottles to keep the cork from drying out.

The final touch of charm is a quote above the door, one of the homeowners' favorites (figure D). If you don't have a favorite quote that you can use, try checking your local library for a book of quotes.

    1. Choose a font and print the quote on computer paper. Enlarge the quote and attach the enlarged print out to the wall using a level. Transfer the quote to the wall using artists transfer paper (Golden suggests this paper because it's erasable).

    2. Slip the paper under the printout (figure E) and trace the printout onto the transfer paper with a blunt-tip pencil (figure F).

    3. Use a round-tip artists brush and acrylic paint to fill in the letters (figure G).

Now you're ready to enjoy your new wine storage room in the company of your family and friends.
