    Figure C

Give an industrial file cabinet a new look with easy-to-apply textured spray-paint finishes. Textured stone- and marble-finish spray paint applied over a dark-green base coat give our filing cabinet a strong, masculine look.

    Materials:

    File cabinet
    Coarse sandpaper
    Tack cloth
    Masking tape
    Dark-green spray paint
    Granite-look spray paint
    Marbleizing spray paint
    Acrylic sealer
    Optional: new brass handles

    1. Remove the drawers from the file cabinet, and sand all surfaces with coarse sandpaper. Wipe clean with a tack cloth.

    2. Mask off areas you want to remain unpainted. In a well-ventilated area, spray-paint all surfaces with the dark-green base coat. Let dry.

    3. Spray the cabinet sides and top with a granite-look spray paint (figure A). Use a marbleizing spray on the drawers (figure B).

    4. When dry, put the drawers back in the cabinet, and spray the entire piece with a clear acrylic sealer for greater durability (figure C).

    5. If desired, replace the old drawer pulls with new brass handles.
