If you're tired of the same old boring outlet covers, why not install decorative cover plates (figure A)?

If you'd like the covers to be original, try a customizing kit, which includes a transparent cover plate and a paper card (figure B). Decorate the card to suit your taste, insert it into the outlet, and attach the cover plate.

You may need to use an awl to punch holes in the card so you can insert the mounting screws (figure C). Then remove the existing cover plate, turn off the power to the switch at the circuit-breaker box, and attach the new cover plate.

If you'd like the cover plates to match the wall, place wallpaper inside the transparent cover plate (figure D).

Several other different options are available if you want a ready-made cover plate (figure E).
