Hermit crabs may live alone in their shells, but they actually live in groups. Care and Maintenance - Keep empty shells in their tank. The crabs need to change shells as they grow.
- Pick a crab up carefully by the shell or it may pinch
- Always provide a clean water supply
- Sand is the best liner for your crab's home -- they like to bury themselves in it to molt.
Warning: - Do not put resinous wood, such as cedar or pine, in the aquarium. If the crabs eat it, it will poison them!
- Hermit crabs can drown in too much water. Place a small dish with shells in it in the aquarium.
Food - Hermit-crab food is available at pet stores.
- Treats include fresh fruit and vegetables.
