Puck is a cute and cuddly mixed breed. He loves to be outside, but his best friend, Steven Smith, can't always be there to open the door. With the help of Steven and his friend Nancy, the Barkitecture crew is going to give Puck an all-access pass to the backyard and also create some personal space for him indoors.

PuckPuck needs the freedom to come and go as he pleases. His owner, Steven, is an eye doctor and works long hours. Puck loves to be outside, but Steven doesn't want to leave him out in inclement weather. So, Kenny Alfonso will install a dog door for Puck so he can go in and out whenever he likes. A bed will be built inside for his long afternoon naps. Dr. Karen Tobias has tips on fencing, feeding and bedding materials. Puck is one lucky dog! Daybed Plans Kenny will install a dog door with no problem. These doors lock, they are weatherproof and really easy to install. For the space inside, Kenny decides on something where Puck can rest and catch a few winks. Steven has an elegant, yet understated home and a dog daybed will fit right in with his furniture. Basic pine shelving will be used to cut the daybed frame from. The bed side rails will be curved and a technique will be shown to make that shape. The legs will be 1-1/2 inches square and ripped from a 2x4 and then attached to the frame using dowel joints. Kenny will teach how to make those joints using a dowel jig. The mattress platform can be cut out of plywood since it won't show and then rest on 1x1s tacked to the inside of the frame. The overall design is simple and elegant to match Steven's furnishings. When all is complete, Puck will be one comfortable dog! Barkitecture Tidbits: - A good fence is one that your dog cannot jump over or get under. If your dog is not a jumper, a standard height chain-link or wooden fence should keep him in the yard. If there are gaps in the fence, it is very important that they are not big enough for your dog's head to get through.
