    Constructing the Dog Crate

    1. Start off by cutting 1-1/2" angle iron to the needed sizes (figure A). This can be done by your local supplier/fabricator if you have a cut list:
    2 @ 102" long
    4 @ 42" long
    4 @ 24" wide

    2. Cut 90-degree notches 30" from each end of the 102" piece of angle iron. Then, bend to a 90-degree angle (figure B) and tack weld at each notch (figure C). Repeat for the other side. Weld the stretchers (24" long) to top corners to connect the sides and 3" up from the bottom of the legs (figure D). Then, weld 42" long rails between legs of each wall to support floor.

    3. Shear copper down to 27"x24" and punch desired pattern of choice (figure E).

    4. Cut pine boards. 8 @ 3" x 27" long.

    5. Shear expanded metal at:
    2 @ 41-1/2" x 26-1/2" (sides)
    1 @ 23-1/2" x 41-1/2" (top)
    2 @ 23-1/2" x 26-1/2" (back and front)

    6. Stain the wood, then attach copper to the wood rails with 1/4" screws. Next, attach expanded metal from back to complete wall panels (figure F).

    7. Insert wall panels inside of completed frame and tack weld in place. Do the same for the top and back (figure G).

    8. Using 1-1/2" x 1/8" flat-bar, weld frame for door 24"x27". Weld expanded metal to doorframe and weld hinges to door. Clamp to crate and then weld to crate.

    9. Cut 1/2" plywood 23-1/2" x 41-1/2" for floor. Insert and let your dog enjoy (figure H)!
