Although springer spaniels were bred to be aggressive and independent, they are in fact unusually affectionate and patient. One of the oldest types of spaniel is the English springer spaniel. The breed's name comes from espanol, the French word meaning Spanish, and from the dogs' ability to jump and spring to flush out game. Personality Traits - Friendly

Health Problems - Epilepsy
- Dry skin
- Eye inflammation and drainage (eyes should be checked daily)
- Ear problems (alcohol drops used after bathing will usually prevent)
- Ear mites.

- Blue or liver roan
- Black and white or liver and white with tan markings
