Bichon frise is French for "lap dog with frizzy hair." Descendants of the water spaniel and the Maltese, the breed was carried by sailors from the Mediterranean to Spain, where they quickly became popular among the nobility. When they fell out of favor, they were put to work as circus dogs. Personality Traits - Strong
- Happy
- Playful
- Active
- Great with kids
- Anxious to please.
Physical Appearance - Very curly hair that looks like a powder puff
- Beige or apricot markings possible in puppies, but adults are white
- Muscular, weight approximately 10 to 18 pounds.
Note: These dogs need a lot of grooming. They should be bathed, blow-dried and brushed out. Once groomed their "frizzy" hair will feel like velvet. Health Problems - The bichon frise is a healthy breed, but they can have skin allergies according to the climate.
- Irregular draining of tears means a little extra grooming around the face.
Bichons frises make excellent house pets because they need little space. Web site resource for Bichon Frise: Bichon Frise Club of America
