Burmese cats look like an ancient breed from the Far East, but in fact they are a relatively new breed developed in the U. S. In 1930 Dr. Joseph Thompson acquired a Southeast Asian cat, which he bred to a Siamese. Selective breeding of the resulting offspring eventually resulted in a new breed, the Burmese, which by 1936 was recognized as a distinct breed. Personality Traits - Affectionate

- Compatible with other animals
- Playful.
Physical Traits - Average weight 7 lbs.
- Silky coat
- Muscular
- Short, compact body
- Round head.
Notes: - Burmese are amazing jumpers due to their powerful hind legs.
- Their short coats mean that they are low-maintenance.
Breed Standards - Yellow eyes (blue unacceptable)
- Medium compact body
- Level back
- Level head
- Indentation in nose.
Note: Burmese are relatively healthy cats, but they can have eye and nose difficulties due to the shape of their faces. Colors - Sable
- Champagne
- Blue
- Platinum
