Hairballs aren't the most pleasant topic for conversation, but they are a fact of life, say Ask DIY Pet Care Experts Stephanie Zielinski and Joel Tatum. Cats often swallow hair while they're grooming themselves, and sometimes that hair gets caught in the digestive system and forms a clump. Then your cat tries to vomit to bring that hair back up. One of the best things you can do to prevent hairballs is to brush your cat every day. To remedy hairballs, put a little hairball lubricant (on sale at pet stores) on your cat's paw. When she licks it up, the lubricant will help the hairball pass right through her digestive track. Or try giving your cat a quarter teaspoon of butter every couple of days for the same effect.
