Doves and conures are excellent as a child's first pet, as they require little maintenance and are a lot fun. White Dove - Albino form of the Indian ringneck dove
- Known worldwide as a symbol of peace and joy.
Notes: - Doves have been know to live as long as 20 years!
- Pigeons and doves are the only birds that feed their young with a milklike substance; the babies put their beaks into the mother's throat to receive nourishment.
Conures - Parrot-type birds from South America
- Tame
- Playful
- Better if raised in captivity from birth
- Live in burrows in nature, so they like to be carried in pockets.
Food - Conures prefer fruit and large seeds such as sunflower seeds.
- Doves need smaller seeds and greens.
- Both birds need grit, a substance that helps them digest food.
