- When your parrot yells, never yell back: ignore him, or whisper to make him quiet down.
- Parrots scream instinctively in the morning and the evening. At those times of day you may be able to distract your bird with toys or hard chews (figure A).
- Never try to physically correct a parrot -- these birds are too smart for that to do any good.
Tips: - Parrots come form the rainforest, so they love to get wet. Try letting your parrot in the shower with you -- use a special shower perch that attaches to the tile so he'll have a safe place to sit (figure B). Or use a spray bottle to give him a shower. Do this three or four times a week (more often in hot weather), and he'll be a happy bird.
- If your parrot gets too wet, gently dry him with a blow dryer.
