Bird breeder Mike Omartian shares a few tips for traveling safely with a bird:

    • The bird needs to be in a safe place, not flying loose in the car. For this reason you should invest in a good pet carrier.

    • Omartian puts a dish of food in his bird's carrier, but no water. Instead, to provide liquid he includes pieces of fruit like oranges. He also includes a towel for the bird's comfort.

    • He makes sure that a "Live Animals" sticker is prominently displayed on the outside of the carrier so that in the event of an accident, rescuers will know that there's a small passenger in need of assistance.
