The smallest of details look professional in the capable hands of Maria Nissen.
|
Hobbyist Maria Nissen says very little sewing is required to complete an upholstery project. Beginners shouldn't be intimidated at all, she says, but should consider taking an upholstery class. While upholstery techniques can be learned from a book, Nissen believes hands-on experience to be of the greatest benefit. Nissen says chairs are best for beginners. First, she removes old fabric from the seat, arms and back. She adds new burlap and padding to the seat, then restructures the arms. Finally, the entire piece is re-covered.
