    Figure D

Add eye-catching accents to plain upholstered furniture with iron-on fabric accents and a dangly skirt of beaded fringe. DIY Decorating & Design host Nancy Golden explains how.

    Materials:

    Upholstered chair
    Kraft paper
    Scissors
    Accent fabric
    Fusible web
Optional: rotary cutter with pinked edges
Decorative trim to edge fabric pieces
    Iron
    Bead-fringed braid
    Glue gun and glue sticks

    1. Cut a kraft-paper template of the fabric piece to be added to the upholstered chair. Nancy chose a diamond for the seat and one for the back.

    2. Iron a sheet of fusible web to the back of the fabric, aligning it with the grain.

    3. Use the paper template to cut the fabric pieces to size, using a rotary cutter if desired (figure A).

    4. Attach the fabric diamonds to the chair. Remove the backing from the fusible web, set the fabric pattern in place on the chair, and iron to fuse in place (figure B).

    5. Cut decorative trim to edge the diamonds, and attach with a glue gun (figure C).

    6. Starting at the back of the chair, add a row of bead-fringed trim to the bottom perimeter of the chair with hot glue. When the first row of fringed trim is in place, add another row of trim, if desired, directly above the first (figure D).
