    (Continued from page 1)

    Box-Pleated Bed Skirt

Bob Denne helps Kelly Keener hang the canopy that April and his wife, Dianna, made. It simply hangs from a few hooks placed in the ceiling. Then April shows Dianna how to make box-pleated bed skirt out of a tropical print.

    Materials:

fabric (we used Waverly #667670, Boca Botanical Dune)
    scissors
    sewing machine
    measuring tape
    iron
    straight pins

    1. Measure the sides and footboard of the bed. Cut three pieces of fabric (one for the footboard and one for each side), each four times the width of the measurements (to leave plenty of room for the pleats).

    2. Fold up the bottom hem and sew a straight stitch all the way across; iron the hem for a smoother look.

    3. Fold the fabric to create pleats. We made ours 12", but you can make them any size you wish. Secure the pleats with straight pins and iron. Stitch across the top.

    4. Cut a band the length of the bed (or footboard) plus 4"; it should be about 10" in width.

    5. Fold the fabric in half and press. Open the band, place it on the wrong side of the top edge of the bed skirt and stitch in place. Then fold the band in half and topstitch the other side to the front of the bed skirt. Tuck in the extra fabric on each side and stitch it closed.

    6. Sew all three pieces (the footboard and two side pieces) together.
