From its crystal-accented chandelier to the highly textured area rug on the floor, the nursery has been transformed into a warm, baby-friendly retreat.

With any design project, it's the final touches that make the room come into its own. And the nursery is no exception. All around the room are accessories that charmingly underscore the baby-chic theme:

    • A mirror created from an old window (figure A). The window glass was removed and a mirror attached to the back of the frame. A narrow shelf underneath holds a small clock and other decorative objects that will someday need to be out of the reach of tiny fingers.

    • Storage baskets under the changing table (figure B). These are great for diapers and all those other changing supplies that the parents will want to have in a convenient spot.

    • New chenille bedding to coordinate with the vintage chenille pillows (figure C). It's hard to tell by looking which is the new chenille and which is the vintage -- and the pastel colors and soft texture add to their suitability for a nursery.

    • A wall shelf for out-of-baby's-reach storage and display (figure D). This may not be a big issue yet, but babies have a habit of growing very quickly and getting into everything they can!

    • Baby booties used as part of the window treatments (figure E). These came from an antiques store, but you could also use a pair of booties you or someone else in your family wore as an infant.

    • A baby-sized chair, perfect for reading bedtime stories or just snuggling (figure F). Tucked into the small nook created by the dormer, it's upholstered in a variety of softly hued prints -- the epitome of baby chic.
