Crown a lamp with favorite fabric the easy way -- with a lampshade kit. The kit includes a new lampshade coated with adhesive. Simply remove the protective paper covering the adhesive-treated shade, and use it as a template for a new fabric covering. Attach the fabric to the shade, and edge with decorative braid.

    Materials:

    Lampshade kit
    Fabric
    Decorative braid
    Scissors
    Rotary pinking cutter
    Glue gun and glue

    1. Choose fabric for your new lampshade. An all-over print that won't require matching at the seam will be easier to work with than a striped or plaid pattern.

    2. Remove the protective paper covering the shade, and use it as a template. Arrange the template on the fabric, and cut along the edge with a rotary pinking cutter ( figure A).

    3. With the fabric face down, align the seam edge of the fabric with the seam at the back of the lampshade, lining up the top of the shade and fabric as well. Roll the shade along the fabric (figure B), and smooth in place with your hands.

    4. Cut decorative braid to length, and attach it to the top and bottom of the shade with hot glue (figure C).
