Tortoises (figure A) and turtles (figure B) aren't the same: tortoises are land animals, with domed shells and feet made for walking on land; turtles have flat, aquadynamic shells and feet designed for swimming. If you want a pet tortoise, be sure to obtain it from a proper source -- don't just pick one up in the wild. Be sure your tortoise gets plenty of light -- eight hours' worth a day is a good amount. (Some people let their tortoises live wild out of doors during warm weather and bring them indoors in winter.) Feed your pet a balanced diet of fruit, lettuce and dog food (for protein). Q: My cat will eat only one variety of food. How can I tell if she's getting what she needs nutritionally? A: Don't worry -- any high-quality commercial cat food will provide her daily requirements.
