    A plate-rack creates a perfect window treatment.

Nancy Golden, host of DIY's Decorating and Design, shows how to create three different kitchen-window treatments using plates and plate racks.

    Horizontal Window Treatment

    1. Find a style of plate rack that you like and that is the right size (since kitchen windows are generally narrow, it's often possible to find a rack that is as wide as or wider than the window).

    2. Hang the rack across the top of the window.

    3. Place plates in the individual plate holders.

    4. Hang ready-made tab-top curtains from the hooks (if the number of tabs is greater than the number of hooks, it's okay to double up and hang more than one tab from a hook).

    Vertical Window Treatment

You can also use vertical plate holders, one on either side of the window. Simply hang them, display one or more plates on each, and hang a swag of fabric across the topmost hooks, behind the plates (if you've placed plates on those hooks).

    Plate Rosette

A third tip is to take a plate to a glass store, have a hole drilled in the middle, and screw the plate directly to a swag bracket. Then mount the bracket beside the window and use the plate as a rosette to hold the swag.
