Change your window decor quickly and easily by hanging tab-top curtains from drapery tiebacks instead of a curtain rod. To avoid drilling into the window frame, attach the tiebacks to a mounting board installed above the frame. DIY Decorating & Design host Nancy Golden demonstrates. Materials:
Tab-top curtains 1" x 2" lumber Curtain or drapery tiebacks Measuring tape Mounting screws Electric screwdriver Pencil Drill Saw
- Make a mounting board by cutting the 1" by 2" lumber to the width of the window frame.
- Determine the spacing of the tiebacks, and mark the mounting board.
- Assemble the back of each tieback (figure A). The decorative front of each tieback is attached after the curtains are in place.
- Mark attachment holes for the tiebacks, and drill pilot holes in the mounting board. Drill two holes for attaching the mounting board to the wall, one in the middle of each pair of tieback-attachment holes at either end of the mounting board, and insert mounting screws (figure B).
- Use an electric screwdriver to attach all the partially assembled tiebacks to the mounting board except the tiebacks at either end of the board (figure C).
- Attach the mounting board above the window.
- Mount the two end tiebacks.
- Hang the tab-top curtains from the tiebacks, and attach the decorative front of each tieback (figure D).
