Stencil-paint ordinary curtains for a custom appearance. Add gold moons and stars for an evening look or your monogram for a personal touch. Materials:
Sheer curtains Permanent fabric paint Stencils Stencil brushes Plastic plate Paper toweling - Pour a small amount of paint onto a plastic plate. Dab the end of the stencil brush into the paint, and pounce the brush lightly on a paper towel to remove the excess. A heavily loaded brush can cause the paint to seep under the edge of the stencil and ruin the design.
- Holding the stencil firmly in place on the fabric, pounce the flat end of the stencil brush up and down over the cutout until the area is completely filled in (figure A).
- Carefully remove the stencil (figure B), and repeat the process over the entire curtain.
- Let the paint dry overnight, and heat-set as directed.
To make your own stencil patterns, buy acetate from an art store, and cut your own designs with a razor knife.
