The use of curtain jewelry is a hot trend in decorating. DIY Decorating & Design host Nancy Golden explains how you can jazz up your drapes with gorgeous tasseled tiebacks and curtain jewelry you make yourself with old buttons, earrings and pearls. Tasseled tiebacks, about $10 each, are a pretty and easy way to add an elegant touch to drapes and curtains. White tiebacks on purple draperies provide eye-popping contrast (figure A). Create decorative curtain jewelry with old buttons, antique jewelry or metal-foil embellishments such as fall leaves. Copper-colored leaves, about $4 for a package of four, look pretty added to soft sheer drapes (figure B). Use a drop of hot glue to attach a tie tack to the back of each leaf (figure C), and tack the leaves to the sheers. Fancy old brooches, buttons or earrings attached to a drapery tieback add a touch of sparkle to a window treatment (figure D) Mismatched pieces of jewelry can often be found at antiques and junk shops for less than $1 apiece. Snap the backing off the button or earring with a pair of pliers, and hot-glue a tie tack or pin back to the piece. Loop ropes of rock crystal or strings of old pearls over a fabric valance for an elegant look (figure E), or use pearls-by-the-yard, available at fabric and craft stores.
