This easy project tops a window with a decorative cornice board. All you need are a cornice-board kit and a wallpaper border.

    Materials:

Cornice-board kit (Plaid Enterprises cornice-board kit includes high-density plastic foam, U pins, L brackets, glue and finishing nails)
    Wallpaper border
    Utility knife
    Spray adhesive
    Decorative braid
L brackets (if not included in kit)

Begin with a foam cornice-board kit. The foam board is lightweight, inexpensive and easy to work with. The cornice boards are fairly wide to accommodate many border sizes, and the foam board is easily cut with a utility knife to match the width of your wallpaper border. If you need a board longer than the kit provides, glue together the front pieces from two kits.

    1. Use a utility knife to cut the cornice pieces to match the width of your wallpaper border (figure A). Cut close to the edge of the wallpaper so no white foam shows.

    2. Apply glue to the ends of the four pieces and set in place at 90-degree angles to form a rectangular box. Hold the glued boards together for a few seconds to allow the glue to set up.

    3. Mark the center of the cornice board and the center of the wallpaper border.

    4. Apply spray adhesive to the front and sides of the cornice board.

    5. Center the wallpaper on the board, lining up the middles, and smooth the wallpaper into place (figure B). Trim the overhanging edges with a utility knife, if necessary.

    6. Cover the bottom edge of the cornice board with decorative braid. Pin the braid onto the foam board with the U-shaped pins that come with the kit. The corners can be tricky -- just overlap the braid, and pin into place (figure C).

    7. Hang L brackets at the top of the window frame (figure D).
