    What you should know about the West Nile virus:

    1. You can only get the disease from mosquitoes and only a small number of mosquitoes carry the disease.

    2. The disease will not kill your pet.

    3. Only a very small number of people will get the disease, and an even smaller number will know it.

    4. Wear insect repellent or heavy clothing when going into the woods.

    5. Report dead birds to your state health department.

    6. Get rid of standing water in your yard that may become a breeding ground for mosquitoes.
