A motion-sensor floodlight can make your driveway safer and more secure.

Floodlights are great for illuminating large areas outside, but they don't help much if they're turned off when you drive up to your house. To help you see better when you drive in at night, install a motion-detector floodlight. As an added bonus, the floodlight will provide extra security.

    Materials:

    Motion-sensor floodlight
    Screwdriver
    Circuit tester
    Wire nuts

    1. Turn off the power to your existing floodlight at the circuit-breaker box.
    2. Remove the screws holding the existing fixture in place, and gently pull the fixture away from the junction box.
    3. Remove the wire nuts, and check the wires with a circuit tester to be certain the power is off.
    4. Disconnect the existing fixture from the house wiring.
    5. Connect the wires for the new fixture, attaching black to black and white to white. Attach the ground wire to the junction box.
    6. Press the wires into the junction box, and secure the fixture to the junction box with screws. Make sure the fixture faces the right direction before you tighten the screws.
    7. At night you can adjust the sensitivity and the length of time the light stays on. You can also control the distance covered by the sensor by adjusting its position.
