- When you send cookies, you need to place them back to back and then wrap plastic wrap around them tightly (figure A). Wrapping them back to back will give them extra strength. When you're thinking of a container to ship them in, you need to go thin: you can use a thin metal canister with paper straw in the bottom. Put the wrapped cookies in; then add wrapped candy pieces on the sides to fill in the spaces so the cookies can't move around (figure B). Wrap bubble wrap around the tin before you cover it with mailing paper or place it in a mailing pack.
- Another fun idea is to purchase Chinese takeout containers (figure C), which come in different colors. Simply place Christmas goodies in the boxes, add a sprinkling of gold-foil "grass," top with a pretty bow and wrap it for mailing.
- Give a gift of a pretty Christmas plate, a package of tea and one of cookies (figure D). By placing the box of tea (or a package of napkins) on the bottom of the plate, then wraping it in cellophane and bubble wrap, you will provide extra padding to protect the plate -- and the recipient will have tea to drink and a plate for the cookies!
- Need a good idea for a coffee-lover? Buy a sturdy decorated boxfill with paper straw and then add packages of cookies and of cappuccino mix (figure E). Top with colored tissue paper, tie the box with raffia and then wrap for mailing.
- A fun idea for movie fans is to fill a film canister with cookies, a pack of microwave popcorn and a video or DVD (figure F). Wrap a ribbon around it and then cover the entire thing in cellophane and bubble wrap.
Did you know? Irving Berlin composed "White Christmas" in 1941; crooner Bing Crosby recorded the song the following year, and it quickly became a chart-topping hit. It claimed the number-one spot for an unheard-of 11 weeks! The song remains the best-selling Christmas single of all time.
