A carriage made from a watermelon and filled with fruit helps the buffet carry the theme for a baby shower.

Hang silver spoons, cups and rattles from a chandelier to suggest a baby's mobile.

Baby showers don't have to be for women only. Couples can get together to celebrate the anticipated arrival of a bundle of joy.

    Invitations

Plenty of good choices are available commercially, but invitations you make yourself can show a creative and sentimental touch. And you may save a little money. Try creating a piece of stationery in the shape of a trifold diaper, then fasten it shut with a small gold safety pin. If the mother-to-be is expecting twins, fashion a piece of stationery that opens to reveal two paper-doll-type images.

A buffet is ideal for serving the guests. Schedule the opening of gifts after everyone has eaten. While the guest of honor is opening gifts, have someone keep a list of the gifts and who they're from.

    Games

    1. Guests can take turns drawing images that relate to parenting, then guessing what each image is.

    2. Have guests write down predictions for the baby's future.

    3. Divide a sheet of poster board into columns, and have each guest guess the baby's birth date, time and weight.
