Putting Greens for Miniature Golf Holes
Materials: Eight 4 x 8 foot sheets of foam core 1 x 3 piece of plywood Craft knife or foam board cutter Indoor outdoor carpet Plastic cups Glue Spray adhesive Tape Scissors Fun foam Plant stakes for the flags Score the foam core on each 8 foot side using a foam core cutter (figure A) or craft knife and use the 1 x 3 piece of plywood as a straight edge to score it. This makes an upside-down flex-top like structure for the putting greens. After you have scored it, turn it over and fold it over to make a box top shape (figure B). Cut the ends so that they can wrap around (figure C) and then use the spray adhesive and tape the corners together. Cut the hole to fit a plastic cup. First, cut the hole and then work the cup into the cutout so that it is snug. Apply a layer of glue around the perimeter of the cup (figure D) and place it into the hole. Place the carpet on the foam core and make a diagonal cut on each corner (figure E) and wrap the carpet around the edges. Cut the hole out of the center of the carpet where your cup is. Attach the carpet with a generous amount of heavy-duty spray adhesive (figure F) and secure with your hands or use the 1 x 3 to help affix. Use more cups as feet -- glue them to the bottom of the structure so it sits off the ground. Glue a cup on each corner and a few on either side (figure G). The cups will stabilize the putting green when it is on the grass. You can also use pieces of wood to secure it from the ground. Expert tip: Krista Lawlor, Crafts Expert for Jo-Ann etc says that when using spray adhesives, you need to keep in mind whether you want a permanent hole or temporary bond. Most brands will give directions for each bond on the back of the can. Typically, you spray both the surface you are applying to and whatever you are applying to the surface.
