    Materials for the Buffet Table:

    Pink taffeta
    White lace
    Tassels
    Wide ribbon
    Safety pins
    Duct tape
    Double stick tape
    Hat box and lid
    Plastic tub
    Metal pan
    Work gloves
    Trash bags
    Dry ice
    Plastic wrap
    Serving trays
    Spoons
    Ice cream scoops
    Bowls
    5 quarts of ice cream
    30 ice cream waffle-type cones
    Box shortbread cookies
    Brownies
    Caramel, fudge and sprinkle toppings
    Fruit toppings
    Paper doilies
    Thin ribbon
    Small plastic bowls and spoons
    Napkins
    "S" hooks
    Risers

    1. We started on our 6-foot table with some lace. We then covered it with pink taffeta. You do not have to use a tablecloth on a buffet, you can use a mix of lace and a bolt of fabric.

    2. Place your table against a wall and put a piece of tape on the back edges of the taffeta and attach it underneath the table.

    3. We gathered the fabric at each front corner of the table and added tassels to complete the swag look (figure A).

    4. To keep the ice cream cold throughout the entire party, create a cooler by placing a metal pan on the bottom of a large plastic tub. Do not touch the dry ice with bare hands -- wear your work gloves. Wrap the dry ice in pieces of plastic wrap and place the pieces on the bottom of the plastic tub (figure B) and along the sides. Do not combine regular ice with dry ice, because water will make steam.

    5. Take a piece of taffeta and cover the inside of the cooler and then add a piece of lace on top of that (figure C). The lace will not show moisture.

    6. The candelabras anchor each end of the buffet.

    7. Use risers under the fabric to set some of the food items on (figure D).

    8. Line the hat box with taffeta and place your cookies in the box. If you have a plain hat box, you could glue your wallpaper pattern around the outside of the box.

    9. We wrapped our ice cream cones with a doily and tied them with a ribbon (figure E) to add an elegant touch.

    10. Set the ice cream out right before the party.

Expert Tip: Jeff Robinson, Culinary Expert, says that if you are planning a dessert bar and you want to have something nice or a little different for your guests, you can have an ice cream bar with several different toppings, or a cake bar with different types of cake. Also, a cheesecake bar is nice with several different toppings.
