A few hours before the party, set up your game room and decorations. We transformed the hosts' patio/clubroom into the casino. - You can rent dice, blackjack and roulette tables from an online store. We also hired dealers and picked up a few other items from a local event company.
- Hang the casino sign above the door that leads to the game space (figure A).
- We made the Triple Layered Cheese Torte and Mushroom Tarragon Brie En Croute a day ahead of time and put the finishing touches on 1/2 hour before the guests arrived. Use scissors to cut away the box mold from the Torte (figure B) and place it on a serving tray.
- Cut out 5 circles 2" in diameter out of thin cardboard and place them in a "spot" pattern resembling number 5 on the side of dice. Spread red caviar on top of the torte around the cardboard circles (figure C).
- Remove the cardboard circles then fill in the circle shape with black caviar (figure D).
- Reheat the Mushroom Tarragon Brie En Croute for approximately 10 minutes at 350 degrees. Transfer the Brie to your serving tray, then cut a 5-inch diameter circle in the top of the center of the pastry and remove that circle (figure E). Be sure the cheese is melted (if not put it back in the oven for a few minutes more) and carefully mix the mushroom mixture with the Brie. The dish will need to be kept hot throughout the party, so use a chafing dish.
- We added fruits and cheese (whatever and however much you desire) to the buffet table (figure F). Crackers are served with the Torte and crackers or bread with the Mushroom Tarragon dish. We garnished the Torte with leaves all around the edges and lemon slices on the side.
- You can make your own play money on a computer program by making the dollar sign in all four corners and putting the names of the hosts in the middle. Just use different colored card stock (figure G).
Expert Tip: Cheryl Evanoff, VP of Regal Rentals, says that if you're using a rental company, you need to have one of the sales people from the rental company come to your home and take a look at your backyard (or room you will be putting gaming equipment in) and tell you what you can and can't do and the square footage you will have available. Expert Tip: Jeff Robinson, Culinary Expert, says that if somebody is going to rent a chafer or several chafers for a party, there are different options available. You can buy them from some of the big outlet stores and the cost is pretty reasonable. If you want to rent chafers, there are usually different places you can find them. Call around and find the best price because there are different types of chafers to fit your party needs and the price.
