Materials:
4 pieces of 4 ft. x 8 ft. black foam core Neon poster board in yellow, blue and orange Few sheets of craft foam and metallic paper Day-glo craft paint and brushes Double stick tape Scissors Craft knife Industrial tape Xenoline (battery-operated string like neon lighting) - First, you need to draw up a design (figure A).
- For the backdrop you will need to use 2 pieces of the foam core. Use industrial tape to tape the two pieces together. Because foam core will bow if you paint it, you need to put a large piece of art paper on it with spray adhesive. Before you put the art paper on the foam core, you need to lightly score (use a straight edge to make a line from top to bottom but do not cut all the way through) it approximately every 8 inches. This will allow it to bow slightly and stand up (figure B).
- Use the other 2 pieces of foam core for the side panels. Draw a squiggly line on each piece of foam core with some chalk and then cut the design out with a craft knife (figure C). Make sure the bottom portions of the designs are wide because they will provide stability. The bottom pieces are what you will use for the side panels.
- Using the craft foam, poster board and metallic paper, cut out different geometric shapes and designs (figure D).
- Put different colors of the day-glo paint on small plastic plates and then dip the brushes into the paint and splatter the paint all over the shapes you created (figure E).
- Place your backdrop where you want it and decide where you want the side panels to go and then use industrial tape to affix the bottom of the stage pieces to the floor.
Tip: Use real human models to determine where your panels will go (figure F). - Once the panels are in place, use double stick tape to attach the shapes you designed to the side panels -- also tape the Xenoline wherever you desire (figure G).
- Place some bistro tables and bar stools all around the front of the stage to make it feel like a real club.
Expert Tip: Diann Valentine, Event Planner, says that transforming a house is one of the most fun parts of entertaining. Always remember: you start from the outside in. In other words, you start with what the walls look like and what the floors look like and then you add elements that will complement all of that or either change it altogether.
