    Figure A

Hallmark's Rachelle Bolton states that never before has there been such an interest in sports. So much, in fact, that Hallmark has created a whole brand of partyware called Party Express that allows them to market licensed products featuring famous sports figures. One item that Bolton thinks will be popular is a line of trading card football plates featuring sports heroes (figure A). There are twelve different plates available, packaged in sets of eight.

Heidi Bohay asks Bolton for some advice on how many paper plates, cups and napkins to buy when shopping for party supplies. She says the rule of thumb is to purchase three times the number of guests invited. During your party many people will be up and down, throwing things away as they finish a plate of food or a drink. It is important for there to be plenty of supplies to keep your guests eating happily throughout the party.

In addition, Bolton recommends setting up your buffet well away from the television. Blocking a play as you reach for food is not considered fine etiquette when watching a game.

Finally, have fun decorating your home with pennants, sports equipment and anything else you can imagine to elicit a festive spirit for the game. You might consider obtaining a video of sporting bloopers or of a famous game to precede or follow the sporting event you are celebrating. And keep in mind that kids can be included in the party preparations to share the excitement of the day.
