Floral designer Joni Papay joins Heidi Bohay to demonstrate the use of unusual containers and lighting to enhance your floral decorations. Papay says that you can create imaginative flower arrangements with everyday items found around the house. Your guests will delight in the unexpected placement that she suggests for your arrangements.

    • Props that relate to a party's theme, such as these tennis balls and racquets, will capture your guests' attention and add a unique presentation to your floral design (figure A).

    • Use old trunks and suitcases for an original floral container or stand (figure B).

    • Old copper kettles are always an attractive and pastoral way to display a lovely flower arrangement (figure C).

    • Greenery from your yard or vegetables and fruit from the refrigerator can serve as lovely additions to colorful flowers. The lettuce in this arrangement is sure to be an ice-breaker at your next party (figure D).

    • Don't limit the location of your floral arrangements to the inside of your house. Decorating the outdoor areas will make your guests feel welcome right away and will leave a lasting impression (figure E).

    • This stunning floral display is exquisitely enhanced by the reflective pool and fountain (figure F).

    • Lighting is one of the best techniques for enhancing your floral arrangements. Use a spotlight or add plenty of candles for that warm, romantic glow (figure G).

Using flowers in unique ways with unusual materials will delight and impress your guests and show that you took the time and care to enchant them. So next time you work with flowers, don't go to the florist. Go to the garage and the thrift store!
