DIY Decorating and Design host Nancy Golden shares some ideas for formal dinner-party favors.

    1. Buy small packets of coffee, tie them with a ribbon and place one in each coffee cup, atop a foil muffin-tin liner.

    2. For a New Year's Eve party, buy a small alarm clock for each guest and attach a card that reads "Time to Party." Sprinkle confetti at each place setting.

    3. Ready-made place-card holders are available. You can buy matching ones or a variety or designs.

    4. Place a fresh flower in a bud vase at each plate and let your guests take them home.

    5. Use a glass pen to personalize a wine goblet for each guest.

    6. Stock up on votive and gel candles, bath oils, tiny picture frames, etc. Keep them on hand to use as party favors.

    7. Use fabric pens or paints to personalize linen napkins for your guests.
