  • Plates and Glasses
  • Tips on using inexpensive china and glassware to dress up a party....
    From "Special Presentation"
    episode DADC-214

One way to make entertaining easier--and more elegant--is to ditch the paper and plastic and buy glass plates and stemware.

    • Tableware in neutral colors is good because it will mix with any china for any holiday.

    • Smaller plates are the perfect size for a buffet, and if you want to save money, you can buy seconds, which have minor nicks and scratches.

    • The same goes for glasses: if there are some slight defects on the bottom, no one but you will be any the wiser (and you'll never tell!).

    • Look for glasses in sizes that can be used for soft drinks or mixed drinks.

Web Extra: Fabulous dinnerware doesn't have to cost an arm and a leg. For instance, the Limogès china in figure A cost $1,000 a place setting, but a place setting of the similar china in figure B cost just $25! Ask yourself: Would guests really know--or care--if you used the less-expensive china?
