Steps:
- Measure the width of the window and cut each long board to that measurement (for example, if the window is 30" wide, cut each long board 30" in length).
(Note: The backboard is a little bit wider than usual. The one shown is a 1" x 12", which means it actually measured out about 11-1/4".)
- Cut front board, bottom and two sides, 6" wide and 6" deep.
- Transfer the stencil onto a piece of brown kraft paper, then slip carbon paper underneath the stencil and use it to trace the design onto the backboard.
- Cut the stencil out with scroll saw, using reliefs to make it easier to cut. It will take about 15 minutes to cut out the design.
- Stand the back up and center the bottom so it's even.
- Glue the sides together with exterior glue, then clamp.
- Predrill holes and insert brass screws on the front.
- Use finish nails for the back.
- Paint the design using a stamping technique (be sure to practice on scrap wood first).
