Greek mythology says that the first cornucopia was a horn of the goat that suckled Zeus, and it was believed that a cornucopia would become full of whatever the owner desired. This cornucopia is not only full of bread, it's also made out of bread. Check it out. Bread Cornucopia Ingredients and materials: Colander Aluminum foil Vegetable oil 2 loaves of frozen bread dough Egg wash (used as paste) Cooking brush Wrap a colander with aluminum foil and spray with vegetable oil. Let the frozen dough thaw (but not rise), then roll one over the colander. Use egg wash as a paste to attach the bread around the colander. Once it's attached, egg-wash the entire surface. Cut the other loaf of bread dough into strips. Lay the strips of dough from the top to the bottom and tuck inside the colander. Lace the cornucopia with the dough strips, basketweave style (figure A). Egg-wash the complete surface again and twist the bottom together. Bake at 400 degrees for 15 to 20 minutes, or until golden brown. This portion is just for show, not to be eaten. Mayflower Banana-Squash Boat Table Decoration Ingredients and Materials: Banana squash Sharp knife 3 wooden dowels Craft foam Red fabric to top the dowel sails Scissors Broccoli with stalks Black marker Butternut squash Craft paint Paintbrush Felt Ribbon Glue gun Doll hair Doll pilgrim hat Doll-sized Native American headdress Dry ice Carve the center out of the banana squash (figure B). Cut out 7 squares of craft foam and attach to 3 dowel sticks -- two on each of the outside sticks and 3 on the middle dowel. Punch 2 holes (one at the top and one at the bottom) through each square of foam and push the dowel sticks through them to create boat sails. Top with red fabric cut in a triangle. Place the broccoli stalks in the carved portion of the banana squash. With a black marker, draw the boat's portholes on the banana squash. To create the pilgrims and a Native American, simply paint faces on butternut squash and clothe with felt pieces, doll hair and doll-sized pilgrim hat and Native American headdress. The piece de resistance is to create a steamy, smoky affect by using dry ice. Be sure an adult handles the dry ice. This is a table decoration that will please children of all ages!
