Artist Courtney Watkins creates a tribal-style wall hanging that can be altered in color and design to suit any decor. Materials: Five 1" x 4" boards, cut to 36" long Light- to medium-grit sandpaper Acrylic paint Paintbrushes 16 eyehooks, 3/4" opening x 1" long 40" of small chain, cut into 4" lengths Wire cutters Thin rope, twine or ribbon (optional) 2 picture-frame hangers Nails Hammer Pencil Ruler - Sand each board and paint with a base color (all the same, or each in a different color).
- Use pencil to sketch desired design on boards. Follow with contrasting paint to outline and fill in the design (figure A). Allow to dry thoroughly.
- Measure and screw in eyehooks (2 on bottom, 2 for top). Leave upper edge of top board and lower edge of bottom board bare.
- Attach 4" chain length between top and bottom eyehooks on each board (or substitute rope, ribbon or twine).
- Finally, attach frame hooks to upper edge of top board (figure B) and hang entire piece.
