    Figure B

Artist Courtney Watkins creates a tribal-style wall hanging that can be altered in color and design to suit any decor.

    Materials:

    Five 1" x 4" boards, cut to 36" long
    Light- to medium-grit sandpaper
    Acrylic paint
    Paintbrushes
    16 eyehooks, 3/4" opening x 1" long
40" of small chain, cut into 4" lengths
    Wire cutters
Thin rope, twine or ribbon (optional)
    2 picture-frame hangers
    Nails
    Hammer
    Pencil
    Ruler

    1. Sand each board and paint with a base color (all the same, or each in a different color).

    2. Use pencil to sketch desired design on boards. Follow with contrasting paint to outline and fill in the design (figure A). Allow to dry thoroughly.

    3. Measure and screw in eyehooks (2 on bottom, 2 for top). Leave upper edge of top board and lower edge of bottom board bare.

    4. Attach 4" chain length between top and bottom eyehooks on each board (or substitute rope, ribbon or twine).

    5. Finally, attach frame hooks to upper edge of top board (figure B) and hang entire piece.
