Add dimension to a display wall with an easy-to-install niche. Made of high-density polystyrene or polyurethane, prefabricated wall niches are lightweight and designed to fit in the wall between 16"-on-center studs. With a wall niche you can display fresh flowers or statuary and change the display as the mood strikes. Prefabricated niches start at about $100 and are available in home-improvement stores and in catalogs. Materials:

- A prefabricated wall niche is made to fit between wall studs set 16" apart on center. Use a stud finder to locate studs, and mark their placement on the wall.
- Use the template included with the niche to draw its placement on the wall. Avoid placing the niche in a wiring wall.
- Use a dry-wall saw to cut a hole in the wall board along the template lines ( figure A). Put the tip of the saw to the wall, pound it in, and cut (figure B).
- Apply a line of construction adhesive around the back of the niche along the seam where it will connect to the wall (figure C), and pop it in place. If desired, secure the niche with finish nails, and patch the holes with putty.
