Here is a gift idea that is sure to please. Cook up a batch of vegetable soup and can it. Follow these directions to create a soup-er gift.

Purchase or find a medium-sized garden basket. Fill the basket with shredded paper (your color choice). Buy a fresh loaf of bread (wrapped) and place in the basket. To carry out the vegetable theme, try to find a couple of vegetable trivets and place in the basket. Find mugs or bowls with a vegetable theme and fill with uncooked (wrapped) pasta shells. Put a bow on them and place in the basket. Place your canned vegetable soup in the basket. To add color, throw in a few fresh vegetables like red peppers and scallions. Top the gift basket with a big bright bow.

Note: For an oriental basket you can use a lacquered tray instead of a basket and place a napkin on the bottom and fold and add another napkin. Buy oriental noodles and take them out of the plastic and wrap them with raffia. Add a jar of clear broth with a touch of green onion to give it color. Put a couple of oriental utensils in a couple of bowls with shredded raffia and add a bunch of green onions. For the final touch, add a bowl with fortune cookies that is wrapped and tied with raffia (figure A). For a chili basket, use a large pot (enamel ware, etc.) instead of a basket and fill it with napkins, bowls, chili ladle, chili powder, dried chili peppers, hot sauce, and a bag of beans (figure B). Add a copy of your favorite chili recipe. This makes a great bridal shower gift.
