  • Quick, Delicious Pizza
  • From "Ask DIY Anything"
    episode DADA-203

People are pressed for time these days and don’t always have time to make meals from scratch. In this episode, chef Paul Sturkey shows you how to save some time in the kitchen by using a pre-packaged pizza crust to make a piping hot work of art.

    Steps

    • Start with your favorite pizza crust. Read the instructions for oven temperature and baking times.

    • Bake your pizzas on an oven-safe baking stone. This will help you get a perfect crust because the stone heats evenly and absorbs moisture.

    • Cut and chop all your favorite ingredients like prosciutto, pepperoni, pre-cooked bacon and pre-cooked sausage a day or two in advance. Be sure that your toppings are the same size to ensure even cooking.

    • If you like meats on your pizza, choose sausages and pepperonis with lower sodium. The meats can be very salty.

    • To keep your pizza from getting greasy, use a blend of cheeses like provolone, skim milk mozzarella and parmesan. This blend will give you a great flavor without all the grease.

    • To keep your pizza crust from getting soggy, place a layer of thinly sliced cheese (not shredded) on the crust before putting on the sauce. The sauce won’t soak into the crust too much.

    • After the cheese, add your favorite sauce...but don’t overdo it or else your toppings will slide right off.

    • Bake your pizza according to the package instructions, and then let it cool for one minute to allow the cheese to set before cutting.
