Forget about paying top dollar for "designer" apple vodka! Here's how to make your own.
Supplies:3 glass jars with tight-fitting screw-top lids (Mason, recycled mayonnaise jars, etc.) 1 gallon vodka (good quality) 3 Granny Smith apples fine strainer
1. Wash the apples to remove any pesticides. Core the apples and remove the seeds, slice into wedges keeping the peel on.2. Wash the jars and lids in very hot water to sterilize them. Place approximately 1 sliced apple in each jar (figure A). You can add more or less apple based on preference and size of apple. 3. Fill the jar to the rim with vodka (figure B). Optional: If you want to speed up the infusion process or deepen the flavor you can sprinkle a little sugar over the apple and vodka mixture.
4. Seal the jar and store in a cool dark place for up to three weeks (we use our refrigerator). After about a week the apple infusions will begin to set.5. Using the fine strainer, strain the fruit from the vodka mixture (figure C). Discard the apples. Pour the infused vodka back into the jar and store in the refrigerator (figure D). You can also funnel the vodka into a decorative bottle for gift giving.
