Hang the wooden rod that supports the quilt from hooks installed in the wall.

Patchwork quilts are a wonderful traditional art form that can be used everywhere in your home. Kitty Bartholomew, host of HGTV's Kitty Bartholomew: You're Home , visits the home of designer Ilona Saari to see her impressive collection of quilts, used on beds, chairs, tables and walls.

Ilona displays quilts in every room. Her dining table is covered with a yard-sale bargain quilt made of brightly colored squares. Quilts draped on sofas and ottomans add color and pattern to a room and are available as needed when nights turn chilly.

A guestroom with quilts hung on three walls makes a cozy nest. Quilts are great wall art: they can be used to cover damaged walls, and they're easy to change.

Many of us hang our textile art the wrong way, with a few pushpins holding the piece to the wall. This eventually causes damage and tears the fabric. The proper way to hang a quilt is to hand-sew a fabric pocket along the top back edge of the quilt to accommodate a wooden rod that will be hung from hooks attached to the wall. Another method is to install a wooden strip on the wall and attach the quilt with Velcro® strips.
