Use the Nantucket Rose pattern with a mauve stripe for a decorative look on a bedside table.

Deborah Durham of Wamsutta demonstrates easy little- or no-sew ways to work with sheets. Patterned sheets are so beautiful, you can decorate an entire room with them. They're washable, far less expensive than slipcovers and great for kids' rooms and dorm rooms.

    Loveseat

To wrap and tie a loveseat, stitch two king-size sheets together side by side. Place over the loveseat, leaving enough on one side and the front to reach the floor. Begin tucking in the sheets between the back and seat of the loveseat, all the way across to the other arm to anchor the sheets in place. Let the sheets drape over the other arm to the floor, and cut off the excess fabric. Wrap cording or rope around the entire loveseat, tying a bow on one side to hold the sheets in place. Adjust the fabric evenly. Add some pillows, picking up a few accent colors.

A coordinating lampshade can easily be made from two pillowcases. By using pillowcases with an attached border, you can create a decorative hem without any extra sewing or cost. Gather the ends of the pillowcases at the top of the lampshade with 3 1/2 yards of decorative ribbon.

    Window Treatment

This window treatment is ideal for any room in the home and fits a 36" to 45" window.

    Materials:

Four queen-size flat sheets (the Wamsutta pattern used is Nantucket Rose)
    Four rubber bands
    Two wooden curtain-rod brackets

    1. Mount the curtain-rod brackets on either side of the window.

    2. Find the two plain-hem-end double corners of one sheet, and tie a double knot (figure A).

    3. Center the knot, and find the center of the circle opposite the knot (figure B).

    4. Grab the fabric at the center of the circle, push it through the circle under the knot, and place it over the left bracket.

    5. Place the knot over the fabric, nestling it in the dip of the bracket to hold it down. Fluff the sheet, and puddle it onto the floor.

    6. Repeat the first five steps with the second sheet on the right bracket of the window.

    7. Gather the third sheet lengthwise, and place a rubber band once around it, halfway down the sheet. At the top end of this sheet, gather, and place a rubber band twice around the sheet, approximately 5" to 6" from the end. On the plain-hem end, tie a double knot as before. Find the center of the circle opposite the knot, push the fabric through the circle under the knot, and place it over the sheet already on the left bracket. Place the knot on top of this fabric, as before.

    8. Repeat step 7 with the fourth sheet on the right bracket.

    9. Take the rubber band from the center of the top sheet on the right bracket, and loop it over the left bracket. Take the rubber band from the center of the top sheet on the left bracket, and loop it over the right bracket.

    10. Loop the rubber bands on the ends of the third and fourth sheets up to the brackets, creating a pouf at the top of each bracket.

To create a coordinating bed table, use a couple of flat sheets draped in layers over an inexpensive round table.
