Nancy Golden, host of DIY's Decorating and Design, shows how to paint over vinyl flooring. - Wearing gloves, clean the vinyl floor with either trisodium phosphate (TSP) or an ammonia-based cleaner. (If using TSP, you will need to mix it with water). Let dry.
- Using a roller, apply a primer with a built-in sealer.
- Brush on a coat of paint with urethane built in, which is specially made for painting over vinyl. The paint is self-leveling, so apply with a brush, not a roller. Let dry.
- If you wish, you can stencil over the paint, or you can paint on lines to give the floor the appearance of tile.
