    The finished fantasy marble.
    Materials:
    Sea sponge
    Paintbrushes
    Small-tipped artist's brush
    Colored glazes

    Steps:

    1. Create the first layer using a sea sponge dipped in a colored glaze. Apply in a random pattern for a unique texture (figure A).

    2. Continue layering chosen glaze colors (figure B), using the sponge and a brush to get into the tight corners.

    3. Use a small-tipped artist's brush to complete the marble effect.

    Trim

To finish off the look of the fireplace, a thin piece of wood trim (there are many types of trim from which to choose -- just pick a style you like) is measured, cut to fit and stained to match the floor. Tap into place with a hammer and small finishing nails.
