The bright, summery hues of the younger sister's room are reflected beautifully in the fabric Golden chose: a pattern of flowers and squares (figure A) in the yellow, green and orange color scheme she had used on the walls. But because the print is so busy, the other fabrics must be scaled down. So Golden selected a small check pattern in ivory and beige, which she used for simple window treatments (figure B). Golden at first tried the reverse-stenciling technique above the windows but decided the effect didn't look right on the yellow walls. Instead, she purchased colorful carved-wood flowers, removed the wire stems and mounted the flowers on the walls. The Bare Facts: Carefully choose the height of any border you use in a room. A border that is too large will make the ceilings appear lower than they are.
