    Materials:

1 pair of child's old cowboy boots
    Four 7" x 9" decorative wood plaques
    Compound miter saw
    Wood glue
    White glue
    Finish nails (1/2")
2 bottles midnight or dark blue acrylic paint
1 bottle medium blue or blue stoneware acrylic paint
    Plate
    1-1/2" painters brush
    Two 10" pieces of twine
    E6000 adhesive
    Water based satin polyurethane
    2" foam brush
    Hammer
    Finishing nails
    Sanding block or paper
    River stones
    Paper towels

    1. Miter cut edges of wooden plaques at 45 degrees (figure A).

    2. Attach the cut plaques at the edges using wood glue (figure B), and allow to dry.

    3. Hammer in finishing nails to reinforce wood glue.

    4. Sand rough edges.

    5. Using 1.5" painters brush, apply 2 coats of midnight blue acrylic paint to wood. Allow to totally dry (45 minutes).

    6. Pour small amount of "Blue Stoneware" acrylic paint onto plate. Load up 1.5" brush with "Blue Stoneware" paint. Dip the brush into the paint and then dab it off on a paper towel. Using vertical strokes, lightly brush paint onto bookends (figure C). Once vertical strokes have dried, repeat dry brush process with horizontal strokes creating a criss-cross pattern, and allow to dry. This will give the wood a worn denim look.

    7. Using 2" foam brush, apply coat of water based satin polyurethane. Allow to dry.

    8. Position and attach cowboy boot to bookend using E6000 adhesive (figure D).

    9. To add weight to bookends, put river rocks into the boots from the toe area all the way up.

    10. Knot raw ends of twine. Using white glue, attach twine to bookend in a lasso pattern around boots (figure E). You could spell out your name with the twine or add silver brads or stars, etc.
