A mask should be as unique as the person creating it. With a few simple decorations and a little imagination, a mask can turn into a work of art. Crafty Kids guest Cristy Feke shares some ideas for putting together unique and playful masks.

    • For a simple mask -- and one that is easy to decorate -- use a paper plate. Cut out holes for the eyes, nose and mouth (figure A), then draw in the features.

    • A more difficult mask could be put together from a kit or molded from plaster of Paris (figure B). All of the materials needed to construct a mask can be found at local craft and art-supply stores.

Tip: To get really creative, try using some of the following items when making a mask:

    • Ribbon

    • Yarn

    • Paint

    • Glitter

    • Construction paper

    • Hat

    • Raffia

    • Feathers
